David Defeats Goliath: Getting Justice for a Young Athlete
Mission: Jasmine, an up-and-coming collegiate female athlete, was improperly benched and denied scholarship eligibility due to a dispute over her contract with her club soccer team. The club, affiliated with a national sports management organization, claimed she had violated her player agreement and threatened to take legal action against her if she chose to play for a different team.
Our Strategy: Ryan Griffith Law P.C. was retained to immediately advise on the enforceability of the contract and protect Jasmine’s rights as a minor. Our firm advanced extensive negotiations with the club’s lawyers by presenting evidence that the contract language contravenes California’s youth sports association law. Our attorneys also advised on compliance issues for maintaining eligibility in high school and amateur sports associations.
Results: The club dropped its claims, restoring scholarship and player eligibility to Jasmine in addition to issuing an apology letter. Jasmine received her scholarship and played without prejudice. In the words of our client:

Defending Homeowners, Achieving Landmark Real Estate Victory
Problem: Sudden eviction notice issued by landlord asserting right to terminate lease due to defect in rental agreement. Family risked displacement in a competitive housing market. Suspected motive for tenant eviction was profit from a short-term rental business.
Our Solution: Findings included multiple unlawful actions under San Francisco’s tenant protections. Ryan Griffith Law P.C. filed an emergency injunction to block eviction, then began direct negotiation with landlord’s attorney. We compiled records of landlord’s history of similar evictions, and represented the Huangs at city agency hearings.
Result: Eviction permanently prevented. Huangs offered settlement amount for relocation costs and damages. Landlord received penalties for misconduct. Case sparked additional investigations of rental practices in the neighborhood. The family continues to live in their home today, and expressed gratitude for the strong effort Ryan Griffith Law P.C. brought to their situation.
Going Against City Hall, Winning Justice in Municipal Law Case
Challenge: Without notice or discussion, the city denied Redwood Community Market’s permit renewal to operate a grocery store in a semi-industrial part of the city with vague zoning restrictions. Closure put the owner’s jobs – and the neighborhood residents’ only food source – in jeopardy.
Our Approach: Ryan Griffith Law P.C. immediately began meeting with city officials, reviewing municipal code, and identifying internal inconsistencies in the city’s interpretation and application of the zoning restrictions. We represented the Market at public hearings, organized community support and filed an administrative appeal.
